Homestay Family

 

We welcome you as our new family member! MapleStars will provide you with a comfortable, clean and fully furnished bedroom with 3 meals per day. Young international students who are studying in West Vancouver or North Vancouver will love it here. Students will live with a Canadian family and learn about Canadian culture. This will help students improve their English language skills and meet Canadian friends. 

 

Family fun

 

We will treat you as a member of the family and will include you in all our family fun activities. However if you do not wish to join, you do not need to.  We will provide you with a key to the house, so that you can come and go freely. Do keep in mind that the more time you spend with your English-speaking host family, the more your English will improve and the more you will adapt to our culture. Some activities may require admission fees, so ask how much it costs since you will need to pay for yourself.

 

Your responsibilities

 

As a part of our family, it is your responsibility to keep you room tidy and clean. After using any common areas around the house, you should clean up after yourself. You may ask to borrow the vacuum cleaner or other cleaning supplies from us when you need them. Moreover, you will need to do your own laundry with laundry detergent provided to you. If you find that you do not have time to do your own cleaning and laundry, you may hire a concierge company to provide these kinds of services for you. Housecleaners advertise in the local newspapers or the Yellow Pages. You will need to pay for these services yourself, as they are not included in your homestay fees.

 

Meals

 

Members of our family may have our own schedules and leave for school or work at different times. From a selection of foods in the refrigerator, you may have to make your own breakfast and pack you own bag-lunch for school. Every evening, we will provide you with a hot dinner. You can relax and chat with us about your day. We would love to cook your favourite foods, so just let us know what you like to eat!

 

Rules

 

You are most welcome to use the comman areas in the house. However, we ask that you respect our house rules. If you are unsure about our expectations or customs, do not hesitate to ask us. 

 

Fees

 

All homestay fees must be made to MapleStars at least 30 days before your arrival. Every month, you will need to make your monthly payment on the first day.

 

Termination of homestay

 

If you would like to terminate your homestay, you need to give us at least 2 weeks notice before your departure date. 

Homestay fee refunds are as follows:

75%                                                         with 3 weeks (21 days) notice or more

50%                                                         with 2-3 weeks (14-20 days) notice or more

25%                                                         with less than 2 weeks notice

 

If you are putting any of our family members at serious risk of harm in any way, or if you have engaged in, or are engaging in any illegal activity, we may terminate the homestay immediately without notice.
